Lambeth 2020 Descends into Confusion

When the boundary markers of biblical and apostolic faith are set aside, confusion enters the Church.  The Secretary General of the Anglican Consultative Council has recently issued a statement about Lambeth 2020 to address what is described  as: ‘a misunderstanding that has emerged in some online blogs’ and announces that that ‘it would be inappropriate for same-sex spouses to be invited to the conference.’ However, to suggest there has been a ‘misunderstanding’ looks like an attempt  to deflect attention from the facts.  The Archbishop of Canterbury has changed the long-established convention that spouses are invited to Lambeth Conferences and contradicted the  blanket statement he made in a recent video when he affirmed   “of course, bishops’ spouses will be invited as well as bishops.”  The reason for this change in policy follows from another, which was to include for the first time at Lambeth 2020 same-sex partnered bishops in contrast to the policy of his predecesso

Canon Michael Green has died: An evangelical giant has fallen The evangelical world mourns the loss of the 20th Century's most powerful Anglican evangelist By David W. Virtue with Chris Sugden www.virtueonline.org February 7, 2019 Canon Michael Green was still preaching the gospel to students in his late 80's. In February 2018, he was the main speaker at Mission events at the Universities of Lancaster and East Anglia. He was a remarkable man, whose contribution to world mission, and particularly Anglican evangelicalism, ranks alongside that of David Watson, Dick Lucas, Jim Packer, even John Stott. Canon Michael Green died peacefully on February 6th in Oxford after a short period of hospitalization in Oxford, at the age of 88, writes Chris Sugden, a close friend and Oxford resident where canon Green lived a large portion of his life. "In many ways Oxford was Michael's city. He studied at Exeter College where he was President of the Oxford Inter-Coll

Vatican Sex Abuse Summit: Pope Says He Means Business, but Victim Says 'This Is Ridiculous'

Pope Francis has ordered Catholic leaders to Rome to address the global epidemic of sex abuse in the church. The pope says it's time to end the culture of silence and expose the sins of the guilty. That's why victims are also at the summit, telling their stories of abuse suffered at the hands of priests. Pope Francis said he called the Vatican summit so church leaders would realize he means business. He said it's time to move the church from a culture of silence, to exposure. The goal of the four-day papal summit is to hear from victims, find solutions, and acknowledge that sexual abuse by priests is a worldwide problem. The global gathering began with the pope kissing the hand of an abuse victim. He then told attendees the Catholic Church must not only speak words, but take concrete actions. He urged the cardinals, bishops and priests to, "Listen to the cry of the young who want justice." On CBN's Newswatch program, Catholic News Agency e

Christian Student's Kidney Slashed in Half by Angry Muslim Classmates

A Christian Pakistani student was recently stabbed by Muslim classmates. Haroon Ifan, a student at Government Mohammadi School in Karachi, was first targeted on Feb. 15 when a Muslim student stole and damaged his notebook.  "Haroon made a complaint to the teacher and, when the notebook was recovered from Majid's backpack, he got angry and felt insulted," Irfan Masih, Haroon's father, told International Christian Concern (ICC).  Two days later, Haroon was attacked by Majid and other Muslim students on his way to buy food. Persecution.org reports Haroon was stabbed in the stomach, causing damage to his kidney. "When Haroon was alone on the road, Majid and five others beat Haroon for alleging Majid of stealing his notebook and complaining to the teacher," Irfan shared. "The attack was so terrible that Haroon's kidney was cut into two pieces." The students left Haroon at the scene wounded. After being discovered, he was rushed to a nearby

•BBOG asks FG to explain silence Kasim Sumaina A group of protesters, led by former presidential aide, Mr. Reno Omokri, laid siege to the Nigerian High Commission in London yesterday to commemorate the first year of the incarceration by Boko Haram of Dapchi School girl, Leah Sharibu. The protest, which the organisers said was to remind the world of the failure of the federal government to secure her release, was complemented by a query from the Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) and Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), questioning the silence of the Muhammadu Buhari administration over the school girl’s one year long captivity by the terror group. The London protesters called Leah’s mother, Rubeccah, and empathised with her, telling her that they stood with her in her low moments. The protest organised by Christian Support Worldwide (CSW) began in the early hours of the day, with the group’s Founder and Chief Executive, Mr. Mervyn Thomas, saying the

Lo! he comes, with clouds descending, once for favoured sinners slain; thousand thousand saints attending swell the triumph of his train:  Alleluia! Christ appears on earth to reign. 2. Every eye shall now behold him, robed in dreadful majesty; those who set at naught and sold him, pierced, and nailed him to the tree, deeply wailing shall the true Messiah see. 3. Those dear tokens of his passion still his dazzling body bears, cause of endless exultation to his ransomed worshipers; with what rapture gaze we on those glorious scars! 4. Yea, amen! let all adore thee, high on thine eternal throne; Savior, take the power and glory; claim the kingdom for thine own: Alleluia!  Thou shalt reign, and thou alone.( Revs. C. Wesley & J. Refrain: Up from the grave he arose; with a mighty triumph o'er his foes; he arose a victor from the dark domain, and he lives forever, with his saints to reign. He arose! He arose! Hallelujah Christ arose Vainly they watch his bed, Jesus my Savior, vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord! [Refrain]  (Robert Lowry 1989) Imagine standing on a queue and you are the first and the last person on the queue. What does that mean? Simple understanding  tells me that you are the only one on the queue. This is how Jesus introduced Himself to the church! That

Archbishop of Canterbury says Spouses of Homosexual bishops not welcome to Lambeth 2020

By David W. Virtue, DD www.virtueonline.org February 15, 2019 The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, threatened by calls for orthodox Anglican bishops not to attend Lambeth 2020, has backed down and says he has written a letter to several homosexual bishops saying they cannot bring their spouses to Lambeth next year. "I need to clarify a misunderstanding that has arisen. Invitations have been sent to every active bishop. That is how it should be -- we are recognizing that all those consecrated into the office of bishop should be able to attend. But the invitation process has also needed to take account of the Anglican Communion's position on marriage which is that it is the lifelong union of a man and a woman. That is the position as set out in Resolution I.10 of the 1998 Lambeth Conference. Given this, it would be inappropriate for same-sex spouses to be invited to the conference." The Archbishop of Canterbury said he had a series of private convers
