The Passion of Christ: Third Word on the Cross

Seeing His mother, with the disciple whom He loved standing beside her, Jesus said to her, ‘mother, there is your son’; and to the disciple, ‘There is your mother’; and from that moment the disciple took her into his home. John 19:26- 27

Church Hyminal 508
1. Love divine, all loves excelling,
joy of heaven, to earth come down,
fix in us thy humble dwelling,
all thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion,
pure, unbounded love thou art;
visit us with thy salvation,
enter every trembling heart.

2. Come, almighty to deliver,
let us all thy grace receive;
suddenly return, and never,
nevermore thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
serve thee as thy hosts above,
pray, and praise thee without ceasing,
glory in thy perfect love.

3. Finish then thy new creation;
pure and spotless let us be;
let us see thy great salvation
perfectly restored in thee:
changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before thee,
lost in wonder, love, and praise. Rev. C. WESLEY, 1747

MEDITATION

It was amazing that all disciples of Jesus excluding John deserted Him during His arrest and passion but at the foot of the cross was Mary the mother of Jesus and John, the disciple whom Jesus love.
Mary and John followed Jesus Christ to the point of His death; and the other disciples were nowhere to be found. These were supposed to be Christ closest allies but they deserted Him when the going got tough.

Some of us today are still following Christ because the money and employment is still there; some are following him because He promised them one or two things and when all these are gone we turn our back against Him.

A true member of Christ family, is one who follows Christ to the point of joy and weeping. It takes love for God for one to commend his life time in following Christ; it doesn't matter what comes your way, just endure with Christ because the scripture made us to understand that the suffering of this present time is nothing compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us Rom. 8:18-23; St. Paul also noted thus: 1 Peter 5:10 New King James Version (NKJV) 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

Prayers
Almighty God, the Father of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; thank you because one amazing fact of the scripture is that you have not called the house of Jacob to seek you in vain; Lord may our longing and pursuit of you be with an everlasting reward; as Mary and John stood with you in times of pain, may we also by your grace share in your pain and joy and finally my the love and mercy of your Son Jesus Christ grant us to share in your everlasting Kingdom as one Holy Family through Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen.
