ST JOSEPH OF NAZARETH DAY: Lessons and Significance (March 19)

St. Joseph Day is an annual memorial in the Christian Calendar Worldwide. Joseph was the HUSBAND OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY whom was betrothed to him before the Lord sent His Angel to bring her great tidings about the birth of Jesus Christ.

Joseph was the last ancestor from the descendant of David before the birth of Christ, we can see Good News Translation Matthew 1:12-16 From the time after the exile in Babylon to the birth of Jesus, the following ancestors are listed: Jehoiachin, Shealtiel, Zerubbabel, Abiud, Eliakim, Azor, Zadok, Achim, Eliud, Eleazar, Matthan, Jacob, and Joseph, who married Mary, the mother of Jesus, who was called the Messiah.

The union that existed between Joseph and Mary was in fulfilment of God's promise to David that through him a Saviour shall come to His people Israel 2Sam.7:4,8-16.

LESSONS and SIGNIFICANCE of ST JOSEPH OF NAZARETH DAY

-The importance of this day to me is that our God cannot lie, He is a Covenant keeping God; if He ever say a thing, He watches over it to come to pass.

- Joseph was a man who is upright and fears the Lord that even when he learn that Mary was with a baby by the Power of the Holy Spirit, he never disgraced her or abandoned her but took hid to the instructions of the Angel of the LORD to take her as his wife. Mathew 1:-24

- Christ expect our union with Him to bear fruit just as that of Joseph and Mary. John 15:1-11

- We also learn from this day that it is through the obedience of Joseph to take Mary as his wife that all the families in the world whom have come to acknowledge Christ in their in their homes are called  one HOLY FAMILY.

- Joseph was not an idle man, he was a Carpenter so we learn that your occupation is not what that matters, all that matters before God is your obedience and faithfulness to Him.

- He was from the little town of NAZARETH and no one has ever imagine that something good will ever come out of Nazareth but God is not concerned with where you are from but where He is willing to take you.

- St. Joseph is a model which every family is to learn humility, uprightness, obedient and fear of the LORD.

Conclusion, St Joseph day is a day we commit ourselves to prayers by asking God to endow all families with His love and unity, it is a day we are to re-examine and live in total obedience to God's command.
