2019 Mothering Sunday: Christian Concerns for Families Worldwide

It's no longer news that mothering sunday has become an annual event in the church today especially among the orthodox churches, but have you taken time to investigate the reason for this celebration and judge for yourself if it is worth it.

I have done my own investigation into this annual Christian event and I can beat my chest that it is a day worth celebrating; one of the scriptures that inspires my convictions on this day is Genesis 3:20 and Proverbs 30:10.

First of all you will agree with me that it was through the woman that sin enters into the world and it was still through her childbearing that salvation came into the world. See Gen. 3:6, 2Tim. 2:14-15.

We can also note at the foot of the cross where Christ officially recognised the family with His own mouth; John 19:26 Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing near her. He said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son."

John 19:27 Then to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that moment the disciple accepted her as his own mother.

This message of Christ is what formed the basis of Christian homes, where love and unity is to be uphold.

The main essence of this day is not just to celebrate a virtuous woman but to celebrate the concerns of Christian Families worldwide. What then is the concerns of Christian families worldwide?

The peculiar concern of Christian Families worldwide is to understand that Christ has united man back to God through His incarnation, death, burial and resurrection. It is a matter to uphold daily in our homes that through continual faith, charity, Holiness and Sobriety; families of the world are now save to everlasting life in Christ Jesus.

In mothers sunday like this, are very quick to celebrate our mothers on their ground of achievements; while this is important, we ought to celebrate them the more for standing as pillars to foster the unity of the family through Humility to their husband, love, charity, holiness, steadfastness etc.

The Family is the heart of every society; and the family is the mirror through which the society is seen; so what ever becomes of our nation today has its root from our families, that is why this day is very essential in the Christian Calendar that we will remember the efforts of the families towards building a godly nation.

So on this day, don't just call your mom or send presents to here but also give thanks to God for Christian women worldwide for their patience, humility and contributions towards building a godly society.

Almighty God we thank you for the grace to witness another Mothering Sunday, we bless you for the gift of mothers; we thank you most especially for you made them home and nation builders. Today, we ask you for your blessings upon every mother and the continuing grace to live for you and do your will; Lord grant them the grace to live long and enjoy the fruits of their labour to the glory of your Holy name Jesus Christ our Lord!
